Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, on Monday emphasized the importance in investing in education, speaking on the occasion of this month’s beginning of the new academic year and during his attendance at a sanctification service at a Church-affiliated daycare center north of the Greek capital.
“The best investment is in our children, in education, in schools, and in general, in spiritual development,” His Beatitude said.
The Church of Greece and its Metropolises around the east Mediterranean country have traditionally supported college students and the families of high school pupils taking university entrance exams. The Church’s permanent Holy Synod earlier this month announced that the allocated sum for awarded academic scholarships in the new academic year will total 333,000 euros.
The reports come as Greece’s education ministry this week opened an online platform for new tertiary level students’ registration at universities and colleges around the country.
