On Wednesday afternoon, 3 September 2025, the city of Kalamata welcomed the Holy Icon of Panagia Dimiovitissa, which was brought from the Holy Monastery of Dimiova on Mount Taygetos.
Before the reception, A Vespers service was celebrated at the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in the Giannitsanika district, which was presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia. Afterwards, all went out in procession to receive the Holy Icon, accompanied by the Kalamata municipal philharmonic band, the Mayor of Kalamata Mr. Athanasios Vasilopoulos, the Deputy Regional Governor of Messinia Mr. Efstathios Anastasopoulos, the Member of Parliament for Messinia Mr. Miltos Chrysomallis, and many members of the Municipal Council of Kalamata and the Regional Council of the Peloponnese.
At the conclusion of the reception, His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos, addressing the faithful, emphasised that the presence of the wonderworking Icon in the city of Kalamata for yet another year is a great blessing. He described the Most Holy Theotokos as the Mother of love, peace, and philanthropy, and invoked her grace for the swift deliverance of humanity from the trial of wars.
The Holy Icon was placed in the Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Giannitsanika, where it will remain for ten days for veneration.
