On the occasion of the Sunday of Orthodoxy, which based on the Lenten calendar for 2021 was commemorated today, March 21, the St. Maxim the Greek Institute and the online platform Pemptousia hosted an online theology synaxis with several Orthodox primates, hierarchs, elders and academics, including the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All-Holiness Bartholomew I.
Along with the Ecumenical Patriarch, speakers included the Metropolitan of Nafpaktos and Aghios Vlasios, His Eminence Ierotheos, the Metropolitan of Larissa, His Eminence Ieronymos, the Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi (Mount Athos), the Elder Archimandrite Zachariah, the Abbot of the Monastery of the True Cross in Essex, UK, as well as several noted professors of theology.
The discussion was moderated by Prof. Symeon Paschalidis.
The assembly was attended by more than 100,000 users from around the world.
In his message, His All Holiness noted that “the theological foundation of the icon is the sacrament of the incarnate Divine iconography.”
The restoration of the Holy Icons, commemorated as Sunday of Orthodoxy, was also celebrated on March 21 at the Patriarchate of Jerusalem.
A Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the catholicos (the main cathedral) of the Church of the Nativity, officiated by the Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Most Godly Beatitude Theophilos III.
