Peaceful protest rallies continued over the weekend in the small Adriatic country of Montenegro against a controversial law passed last month, which the Orthodox Church in the country considers as a thinly veiled attempt by the Montenegro government to seize many of its properties and relics.
More than 25,000 people gathered on Sunday in the northern city of Pljevlja to voice their opposition to the controversial law.
In addressing the gathering, the Serbian Orthodox Patriarchate’s Bishop of Mileševa, His Grace Atanasije, noted that “… I did not come here this evening to instruct you, to command you or to advise you; I have come to warm your faith, courage and determination, because the people of Pljevlja have assumed the leadership in the struggle taking place in Montenegro, and we thank you for this”.
