Rector of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Professor Gerasimos Siasos, met with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at the seat of the Ecumenical Throne in the Phanar.
Among other matters, Rector Professor Gerasimos Siasos briefed the Ecumenical Patriarch — who has been proclaimed Honorary Doctor of all the Schools and Departments of the University of Athens — on the institution’s international development trajectory and the program of anniversary events marking the 190th year since its founding.
In a statement, Mr. Siasos said: “It was a particular honour and profound joy for me to have the opportunity to brief His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, on the dynamic developmental and international trajectory of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, as well as on the full range of anniversary activities being planned to mark 190 years since the founding of Greece’s first and largest university.
The enduring love, unabated interest, and special care shown by His All-Holiness for the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, of which he is an Honorary Doctor of all its Schools and Departments, constitute the highest honour for our entire University Community.
This steadfast relationship, grounded in the University of Athens’ longstanding ties with the Ecumenical Patriarchate and in the enduring values of Hellenism, is a precious source of inspiration and strength for all of us, reinforcing our shared effort toward the further academic, research, developmental, and international advancement of the University of Athens as it enters the great anniversary period marking 190 years of its historic journey.”
