Members of the Church of Greece’s Holy Synod convened on Thursday, May 23, 2019, a day after the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, arrived in Athens for a closely watched visit.
The Patriarch was received and met on Wednesday with the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, at the Athens Archdiocese.
The Primate of the Church of Greece briefed hierarchs over his meeting, a day earlier, with the Ecumenical Patriarch.
A day earlier, on Wednesday evening, the Ecumenical Patriarch used the well-known adage of “…blood being thicker than water” to describe his meeting with Ieronymos.
“We had a good and fruitful discussion with His Beatitude, my brother, Archbishop Ieronymos. It was our first meeting since certain woes arose between us. This is human nature. We must have the strength to overcome and persevere for the good of the Church,” Bartholomew said.
