According to initial reports, the reposed hierarch in the northern Greece prefecture passed away at a Thessaloniki hospital from a sudden heart condition. He had been hospitalized only hours earlier.
Metropolitan Pavlos had overseen and ministered at the specific Metropolis for the past 17 years.
The Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, officiated at an exodios funeral service today at the Holy Cathedral of the Entrance of the Theotokos into the Temple, in the city of Drama.
Interment followed at the Holy Monastery of the Ascension of Sipsas.
The Metropolitan of Xanthi, His Eminence Panteleimon, has been appointed as the locum tenens of the Metropolis of Drama, until a new Metropolitan is elected.
His Eminence Panteleimon also represented the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, at the funeral ceremonies.
His All Holiness held a Trisagion prayer service for the repose of the soul of ever-memorable Metropolitan Pavlos on Monday at the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. George.
The blessed Metropolitan of Drama was born in the northern Greece city of Veria 1963. He was ordained a deacon in 1983 and as a presbyter in 1988.
Five days after the death of his predecessor, Metropolitan of Drama Dionysios, in October 2005, the blessed hierarch was elected Metropolitan of Drama by the Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece, and ordained the same month.
According to a decision by the municipal council of Drama, today Tuesday, was declared as a day of mourning.
