The Moscow Patriarchate’s Metropolitan of Volokolamsk, His Eminence Anthony, on Tuesday addressed, via video-link, a UN Security Council meeting convened to focus on the situation in the Ukraine.
Metropolitan Anthony, who is the chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department of External Church Relations, described to UN delegates what he claimed was the political repression exercised against Orthodox Church clergy of Ukraine, while calling on the UN to intervene.
Among others, he stated that “…Depriving the citizenship of Ukrainian religious figures is undoubtedly a form of mass political repressions, which contradict the constitution of Ukraine and international agreements that have been signed by that state.”
