A meeting of the Primates of the major Christian Churches in the Middle East will be held in Egypt next December, the Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, said from Cyprus on Sunday, adding that this meeting will emphasize the point that the Middle East is indelibly linked to Orthodox Christianity.

The Patriarch of Alexandria arrived on the island republic on the occasion of an annual gathering of some 30 young people from Orthodox Churches in the Middle East, with visits to pilgrimage sites, monasteries and other monuments on the island on the itinerary.

The intent is for young Orthodox faithful to visit and learn about Cyprus’ ancient and Christian civilization, as well as its continued division, due to an ongoing illegal Turkish military occupation of one-third of its territory.
