The EU Commission this week expressed its “concern” over a recent decision taken by so-called authorities in the Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus, as the latter said they would open another stretch of beach in the abandoned district of Varosha, a Commission spokesman said on Tuesday.
According to media reports, the stretch being cleared for commercial use is around 600 meters long.

On Monday, Cyprus’ Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, met the UN Secretary General’s special representative for Cyprus, and head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force, Colin Stewart, to whom he expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the latest developments.

Moreover, six European Parliament deputies from Cyprus also submitted a joint written question, tabled via an emergency process, with the EU Commission over the latest illegal actions by occupation forces on the island republic.
