Nativity Fast commences today until Dec. 24.

The Church today venerates the memory of Gurias, Samonas, and Avivos, Martyrs and Confessors of Edessa, in ancient Syria.
Today also marks the beginning of the Nativity Fast, one of four main fast periods throughout the ecclesiastical year. The fast concludes on Dec. 24.
