New composition of Church of Greece’s Holy Synod includes two of the most senior Metropolitans

The 163rd synodical period for the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece began on Sunday, which marked the new ecclesiastical year. The Church of Greece’s permanent Holy Synod, with a new composition and chaired by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, convened on Tuesday.

Two of the Church’s most senior hierarchs, the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, His Eminence Anthimos, and the Metropolitan of Paramythias, His Eminence Titos, are members of the new permanent Holy Synod, with the former, in fact, serving as its deputy chairman.

The other members of the permanent Holy Synod for the current synodical period include the Metropolitans of Mythimnis, Trifilias & Olympia, Messinia, Lefkada & Ithaca, Thebes & Livadia, Paros-Naxos, Fokidas, Neas Krinis & Kalamaria, Philippi & Thasos, as well as Sisani and Siatista.

The first secretary of the Holy Synod is Archimandrite Filotheos Theocharis.
