One month since invasion of Ukraine by Russia

Exactly one month has passed since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The latest developments on the day include Western nations warning the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, that his country will pay “ruinous” costs for invading.

The message came during an unprecedented one-day trio of Nato, G7 and EU summits in Brussels.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he hoped for “meaningful steps” at the summits, noting they would reveal “…who is a friend, who is a partner, and who betrayed us for money”.

On the battlefront, seven humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians from Ukrainian towns and cities have been agreed for Thursday, Ukrainian deputy prime minister Iryna Vereshchuk said.

Additionally, Ukrainian authorities claim the country’s military has struck a large Russian landing ship, which was unloading supplies at the port of Berdyansk, about 75km from Mariupol.

Finally, Ukrainian foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, warned that paying for Russian oil and gas in rubles, as Putin is demanding, would be “…helping Russians kill Ukrainians’.

At the same time in neighboring Romania, the Patriarchate of Romania is sending more humanitarian aid to Moldova, where many Ukrainian refugees have sought shelter.

Some 20 tons of recent aid have already reached the city of Cahul.
