Orthodoxy continues to flourish in Japan, where several characteristic Orthodox cathedrals stand in the Land of the Rising Sun, despite cultural differences.
In the words of St. Nicholas of Japan, the 19th century Orthodox Archbishop in the country, who was born Ivan Dimitrovich Kasatkin, “… My goal is to create a local Church, Orthodox in faith, Japanese in spirit.”
Services in most local Orthodox Churches are held in Japanese, with many places of worship open for prayer for all Christian faithful, and not just Orthodox worshippers.
