Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos II, officiated at the Sunday of Orthodoxy service at the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral, along with several hierarchs of the Church of Greece’s permanent Holy Synod.
Greek President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos represented the Greek state, with representatives of the country’s armed forces and law enforcement also in attendance.
The sermon was delivered by the Metropolitan of Patras, His Eminence Chrysostomos, who noted that “our Church today celebrates the restoration of the icons, the triumph of the Orthodox faith and the victory of truth over lies.”
The Metropolitan of Patras also referred directly to Greek president Pavlopoulos, reminding him of his words regarding the Church and its works.
A video and the text of the Metropolitan’s sermon, in Greek, is available today on the Orthodoxia news agency’s website.
