His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria appointed Associate Professor Dr. Christos Karydis as “Archon Skevofylax” of the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
Dr. Karydis serves as President of the Department of Environment at the Ionian University, Vice-President of the School of Orthodox Theology and Culture “Saint Cyril Loukaris” of the Holy Metropolis of Accra, and Director of the School of Iconography “Fotis Kontoglou” of the Holy Metropolis of Sparta.
On Wednesday, 25 November 2025, Pope and Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria, honored the memory of Saint Catherine at the Holy Church of Saint Nicholas in Cairo, with the participation of many hierarchs.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the Patriarch invested six Archons–Offikialioi of the Patriarchal Throne of Alexandria, among whom was Associate Professor Christos Karydis.
Before the investiture, Patriarch Theodoros referred to the role and importance of the “Skevofylax” within the Church, praising Dr. Karydis for his contribution to the Patriarchate (Eritrea, Ghana, etc.) and wishing him health and patience for the continuation of his service.
In his response, Dr. Karydis expressed his gratitude to Patriarch Theodoros, accepting the office with deep thankfulness and pledging, with the help of the Triune God, to prove worthy of His confidence, serving with faith, modesty, and devotion.
He also thanked the Metropolitan of Accra, emphasising that without his persistence, support, and love, many of the accomplishments in the mission would not have been possible.
He further expressed his gratitude to Professor Emeritus Theodoros Panagopoulos of the University of Piraeus, President of the Archons and Grand Protekdikos, for the trust and honour shown toward him.
Finally, Dr. Karydis thanked his wife, their two beautiful children, his parents, and his sister for their unwavering support.
