His Beatitude Patriarch Theodoros II of Alexandria and All Africa was named an Honorary Citizen of Eastern Mani on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, during celebrations held in his honour as part of his visit to the region.
The day began at the Monastery of Panagia Giatrissa on Mount Taygetos, where Matins and a festal Patriarchal Divine Liturgy were celebrated, followed by a procession with the holy icon.
Peloponnese Regional Governor Dimitris Ptochos attended the religious celebrations, accompanied by deputy regional governors and regional councilors.
The events culminated in the afternoon at the Areopoli Indoor Sports Hall, where an official ceremony was held to proclaim Patriarch Theodoros an Honorary Citizen of Eastern Mani, following a decision by the municipality and its municipal council.
Ptochos described the distinction as a special moment not only for Mani but for the entire Peloponnese, noting that it honours a church leader who has dedicated his life to faith, service and his fellow human beings.
He also congratulated Eastern Mani Mayor Petros Andreakos and the Municipal Council on the initiative, stressing that the distinction further strengthens the Patriarch of Alexandria’s ties with the Peloponnese.
The ceremony in Areopoli concluded two days of events in Eastern Mani marking the presence of Patriarch Theodoros with the participation of the local Church, regional and municipal authorities, and numerous faithful.
