The Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Most Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, continued his pastoral visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo for a third day.
On Tuesday, the Patriarch of Alexandria chaired a general synaxis, or assembly, of clerics serving in the Metropolis of Kinshasa and the Metropolis of Brazzaville & Gabon, in the presence of the Metropolitan of Kinshasa, His Eminence Theodosius and the Metropolitan of Axum, His Eminence Daniel. The synaxis was held at the premises of the ethnic Greek community’s cultural center in Kinshasa.

Among others, His Most Divine Beatitude referred to the Alexandria Patriarchate’s deep disappointment and shock over what it has decried as the Russian Church’s non-canonical “intrusion” into Africa, a vast region under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the apostolic Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa.

Patriarch Theodoros noted, in a message directed at the Moscow Patriarchate, that “…we are not the ones who violated the canons. We do not desire anything more than what we have inherited from tradition and the Holy Canons. Let them respect us, as we have respected them.”
