The Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, His Divine Beatitude Theodoros II, continued his tour of sub-Saharan Africa this week. His Divine Beatitude arrived in the large southeast African nation of Mozambique on Tuesday, where he toured areas devastated by a cyclone last year.
The Patriarch of Alexandria was accompanied by the Bishop of Malawi, His Grace Photios.
In the cyclone-ravaged coastal city of Beira, the delegation of Orthodox hierarch toured the history Church of the Holy Trinity, built by Greek expatriates in 1886, as well as the adjacent Greek school.
Both buildings were restored in 2002 and 3 with a grant allocated by the Parliament of Greece, when the current Patriarch of Alexandria was then the Metropolitan of Zimbabwe.
Philanthropist Marina Tsichlakis, a benefactor of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, has funded repairs on damages incurred from last year’s cyclone.
