The Patriarch of Serbia, His Holiness Porfirije, on Wednesday evening attended an event at the presidential mansion in Belgrade on the occasion of Sovereignty Day, the anniversary of the First Serbian Uprising against Ottoman rule in 1804.
In an address, Serbian Alexander Vucic again thanked the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church for what he called the Patriarch’s substantive and decisive contribution towards harmonious relations between Church and state.
In a characteristic statement, the Serbian president reminded that “…the homeland is neither territory, nor race or language, but the collective spirit of a nation, one represented both in the material and moral sphere.”
