The latest Orthodox Church Primate to issue a statement was the Patriarch of Serbia, His Holiness Porfirije, who said the Ukrainian invasion awoke painful memories of the war in the former Yugoslavia.
His Holiness, officiating at a solemn Vespers at the St. Sava Cathedral in Belgrade, said peace was now imperative, calling on the faithful to pray for peace and Ukraine.
The Serbian Patriarch also said the memories of 1990s wars in the former Yugoslavia are still fresh, while decrying the fact that yet another war has erupted in Europe between brothers.
