The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate convened for its regular session on Saturday, 29 August, under the presidency of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, and examined a series of matters listed on the agenda, concerning which the appropriate decisions were taken.
During the session, as noted in the relevant communiqué:
“The Small and Great Messages were performed for His Grace Bishop Kallinikos of Medeia, who had been elected during the Synodal proceedings of July 2026 as Assistant Bishop to His Eminence Metropolitan Ambrosios of Karpathos and Kasos. His Grace subsequently received the congratulations of His All-Holiness, the Holy Hierarchs and the members of the Patriarchal Court.
“Following the conclusion of the Synodal proceedings, ceremonies of canonisation were held in the Venerable Patriarchal Church for the four Venerable Athonite Fathers of Romanian origin: Hieromonk Niphon, Monk Nektarios the ‘Protopsaltis’, Hieromonk Dionysios of Kolitsou, and Hieromonk Petronios; as well as Hieromonk Tychon the Spiritual Father and Monk George, known as Hadjigeorgis. The respective Patriarchal and Synodal Acts were signed in the appropriate Codex by His All-Holiness and by the Holy Hierarchs, members of the Synod.”
