The northern Bulgaria city of Pleven this week celebrated the 142nd anniversary of its liberation from Ottoman rule, and specifically the day when the then Metropolitan of Pleven Ignatius held a memorial service in the courtyard of the St, George the Conqueror Chapel. The Chapel today serves as a mausoleum for the Russian and Romanian soldiers that died during the months-long siege of Pleven in 1877.
