The Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, on Tuesday welcomed former New York governor George Pataki to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and National Shrine, for a prayer service calling for peace in Ukraine.
The Archbishop of America was joined by His Eminence Metropolitan Antony of Hierapolis, of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the United States, as well as Ukrainian diplomats.
The prayer service comes before this month’s one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. According to Archbishop Elpidophoros, gathering at the St. Nicholas Church and Shrine, the only house of worship destroyed in the 9/11 attacks, and a “…heartbreaking reminder of the horrific acts of terror inflicted upon innocent people,” was especially appropriate for the occasion.
