The Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, in an interview with the Athens daily Kathimerini, referred to the vindication of efforts by all his predecessors since 1950, in the wake of recently passed legislation that covers long-vacant clerical positions around the country.
The ratified law fulfills a decades-long request by the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece.
In a published statement, His Beatitude noted that “…our clerics, despite what many of the proponents of progressivism overlook, are the heads of families with concerns, obligations and responsibilities, and they also deserve the salary foreseen by the Greek state.”
In a related development, a new phase for the registration of properties belonging to 20 Metropolises of the Church of Greece has commenced.
The project involves the digitization of a relevant archive of ecclesiastical properties held by the 20 Metropolises.
