New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is reportedly ready to announce a high-profile initiative to resume construction work at the new St. Nicholas chapel in Manhattan, on the spot where the previous small Orthodox Church was destroyed during the 9/11 attack.
According to press reports citing the New York Governor’s office, a team of major benefactors has been assembled by Cuomo to provide the financial backing needed to complete the stalled construction of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. The latter will also be designated as a US national shrine at Ground Zero for people of all faiths to visit.
A New York Post article this week on the prospect of resumed construction cites the election of the Metropolitan of Bursa, His Eminence Elpidoforos, as the new Archbishop of America, as a positive development.
