A spokesman for the Russian Orthodox Church this comment a recent and very high-profile decision by the Holy Synod of the Alexandria Patriarchate to cease the commemoration of Russian Patriarch Kirill’s name in all liturgies.
In an interview, spokesman Vladimir Legoida claimed that the decision by the Sacred and Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa shows that the latter considers all of the African continent as its ecclesiastical jurisdiction.
He also claimed that no pan-Orthodox decision grants this exclusive domain, adding “this is the path, unfortunately, that Constantinople took in relation to the Ukrainian ecclesiastical issue. The Primates of other local Churches also take this path today, something that complicates life in the large Orthodox family.”
