Russian FM speaks of important global role of Russian Orthodox Church, supports its initiatives

Nur-Sultan, April 8, Interfax – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has spoken in support of the initiatives of the Russian Orthodox Church abroad that are aimed at promoting civilizational diversity.

“We have very close cooperation with the department of external church relations of the Russian Orthodox Church, we have a joint working group, where we successfully find ways to join state efforts, state diplomacy and church diplomacy. We are doing everything to support the initiatives of the Russian Orthodox Church abroad, which are aimed at promoting civilizational diversity in the mutually respectful key,” Lavrov said at a meeting with Archimandrite Sergy (Karamyshev), dean of the Astana church district, in the Nur-Sultan Holy Assumption Cathedral.

Lavrov also spoke about the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in the inter-civilizational dialogue in the interests of peace.

“We know what huge role the Russian church plays in the mobilization of believers of all religions without exceptions for constructive co-working in the interests of peace on Earth,” he said.

Lavrov is now in Nur-Sultan on a working visit. Earlier on Thursday, he held talks with Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mukhtar Tleuberdi.
