The Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, His Holiness Kirill, conveyed his and the Russian Church’s congratulations to Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou on the occasion of the commemoration of the beginning of the Greek War of Independence in 1821.
Among others, His Holiness noted that: “The Russian Orthodox Church especially appreciates the interest of modern Greece in preserving the memory of the Russian soldiers and sailors who fell in battle for the freedom of our Greek brothers. Merely the name of Ioannis Kapodistrias sufficiently demonstrates how close the historic ties of our nations are connected.”
