The St.Maximus the Greek Institute, with the kind support of the Holy and Great Vatopedi Monastery of Mt. Athos, is establishing the Eugenios Voulgaris Scholarship Program – named after the 18th century Corfu scholar, prominent Greek Orthodox educator and bishop of Cherson, in the northern Black Sea.
Voulgaris, or Boulgaris (1716-1806), served as the director of the Athonite Academy (Athoniada Akademia) at Holy and Great Vatopedi Monastery from 1753 to 1759. The academy was established at the renowned monastery to upgrade education in the Orthodox monastic community.
