With deep spiritual reverence, the Second Lenten Vespers took place on Sunday, 9 March 2025, at the Archdiocesan Church of Our Lady “Axion Esti”, in the Holy Diocese of Chora. His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, presided over the Vespers, and conveyed the wishes and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, to the congregation.
During his address, His Grace referred to the significance of The Sunday of Orthodoxy, which is celebrated on the first Sunday of Great Lent as a reminder that fasting, almsgiving and every good deed must be accompanied by true faith and correct teaching. One can offer much charity, pray and fast, but if they are not founded in the Truth handed down to us by the Orthodox Church, their struggle is incomplete.
His Grace pointed out that Orthodoxy is not just a name or a tradition, but the living experience of the truth of Christ. Today’s era offers many different understandings of spirituality, he added, but only the Orthodox Church preserves the Truth of God unadulterated. Therefore, the Sunday of Orthodoxy is not just a memory of the past, but a reminder that our faith must be lived fully, sincerely and within the life of the Church.
