The Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, under the chairmanship of His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of Serbia, on Thursday announced that it will seek recourse to the constitutional court in Montenegro in order to render a recently passed law in the small Adriatic country as unconstitutional.
The contentious law obliges religious institutions in the country to provide proof of ownership and titles for properties they possessed prior to WWI. The Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral, an eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church, expresses the dominant faith in the country, and is, by extension, the largest religious institution.
