An archieratical Divine Liturgy, officiated by the Metropolitan of Syros, His Eminence Dorotheos, was held on Sunday at the Catholicos, or main cathedral, of the Holy Monastery of Our Lady the Panaghia Katharon, on the Ionian Island of Ithaca.
The resident Metropolitan of Lefkada and Ithaca, His Eminence Theofilos, co-officiated, on the occasion of the feast day of Metropolitan of Aghialos Evgenios, who was declared a national martyr by the Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece last July.
The April 10 feast day marks the anniversary of the Metropolitan’s hanging by the Ottoman Turks on Easter Sunday in 1821.
