The Community of St. Gerasimos Church Orthodox Church in Manhattan, NY celebrated the Feast day of St. Gerasimos on Sunday, October 20, 2024 with hundreds attending the Divine Liturgy, which was celebrated by His Grace Bishop Nektarios of Diokleia along with proistamenos of the parish Rev. Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne Panagiotis Papazafiropoulos. St. Gerasimos is the patron saint of the island of Kefalonia and members of the Kefalonian community were in attendance to honor their saint.
Following the Divine Liturgy, a reception was held in the community hall, where the women of Kefalonia offered the guests traditional meat pie, accompanied by the famous Kefalonian robola, reinforcing the feeling of hospitality that characterizes the Kefalonians.
President of the Association of Kefalonians “Ainos” of New York, Mr. Vasilios Kokkosis remarked that the Kefalonians of New York remain faithful to their religious roots, and also to the customs of Kefalonia and Greece to honor their cultural and religious heritage.
