The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece extends its condolences to the families of the victims of the two incidents that have shaken the whole of Greece in recent days, offering prayers for the repose of the souls of the departed.
In the relevant announcement it states:
The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, with profound sorrow and deep anguish of soul, joins in prayer with the tragic events that have shaken the whole of Greece following the death of seven young people in a road traffic accident in Romania and of five working women in a workplace accident in Trikala. Already, on its behalf, Their Eminences, Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Trikki, Gardiki and Pyli; and Metropolitan Platon of Langadas, Liti and Rentini, have celebrated the customary memorial services for the repose of their souls in Thessaloniki and Trikala respectively.
The Holy Synod prays to the Lord of the Church, the Crucified and Risen Christ, to grant rest to their souls in His Kingdom and to bestow upon their families consolation, the balm of comfort, and the faith that our departed do not perish but live in the unwaning light of the Kingdom of God.
The Holy Synod, which will offer a memorial service for them at its forthcoming session on Wednesday, 4 February 2026, expresses to the families of the victims, their relatives and friends, and to the entire Greek people its heartfelt condolences, and prays from the heart for their blessed memory and eternal repose.
