The Feast of the Holy Spirit was celebrated with particular splendour on 31 May and 1 June at the Church of the Holy Trinity in the Faliro district of Thessaloniki.

On the eve of the feast, the Festal Hierarchical Vespers was celebrated, presided over by the local Hierarch, His Eminence Metropolitan Philotheos of Thessaloniki, with the prayerful presence of His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon of Vryoula. The sermon was delivered by Metropolitan Philotheos.

Following the conclusion of Vespers, a procession of the holy icon of the Holy Trinity took place through the streets surrounding the festal church, led by the Metropolitan.

On the feast day itself, a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated, with Metropolitan Philotheos officiating and His Grace Bishop Eirenaios of Regium praying in the sanctuary.

The homily was delivered by Fr Damaskinos Petikas, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Pilgrimage Church of St Dimitrios, Patron Saint of Thessaloniki, and Director of the General Philoptochos Fund of the Metropolis of Thessaloniki.

Before the dismissal, His Eminence warmly congratulated the President of the Parish Council, Fr Pavlos Papakonstantinou, and the parish clergy, Fr Vasileios Maniotis, Fr Stavros Nikoulis, and Fr Iosif Pazvantidis, as well as the members of the parish committees, staff, and volunteers who lovingly and diligently prepared this year’s feast celebration. He also commended the church’s talented chanters.

Metropolitan Philotheos then referred to the historic parish summer camp facilities located in Gomati, Chalkidiki, and to their founder, Fr Vasileios Maniotis, thanking him for his many years of dedicated labour. His Eminence also expressed gratitude to Fr Pavlos, Fr Vasileios, and the members of the Parish Council for their decision to place the camp facilities at the disposal of the Metropolis.

In his response, Fr Pavlos thanked the Metropolitan both for his presence at the parish feast and for accepting the transfer of the camp facilities.

Many clergy participated in the Festal Vespers, the procession, and the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. The participation of the faithful people of the city was likewise extensive and deeply moving, reflecting the strong devotion of the local Orthodox community.
