His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa, arrived on Wednesday, 10 September 2025, in the capital of Madagascar, Antananarivo, as part of his pastoral tour of the Metropolises and Dioceses of the ancient Patriarchal Throne, in light of the upcoming convocation of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate.
His Beatitude was warmly welcomed at Ivato International Airport by His Eminence Metropolitan Ignatios of Antananarivo and Northern Madagascar, the Minister of the Interior of the country (representing the President of the Republic), as well as a representative of the Egyptian government and the Greek Consul. In her welcome address, the Minister expressed the joy of the people of Madagascar at the Patriarch’s fourth visit to the country and praised the multifaceted spiritual, philanthropic, and educational work of the Orthodox Church on the island.
Immediately afterward, the Patriarch departed on a domestic flight to the Diocese of Toliara and Southern Madagascar, where he will remain for six days, conducting a series of pastoral visits, clergy synaxes, ordinations, and church consecrations, bringing a message of faith, love, and hope to the numerous and devout flock of the region.
