The Church of Greece’s standing Holy Synod on Tuesday is expected to consider a multi-page “implementation plan”, recently submitted by the education ministry regarding its proposals for revisions in the Constitution, and specifically changes affecting Church-state relations.
According to sources that spoke to the Orthodoxia news agency, members of a committee of dialogue tasked with engaging in talks with the ministry’s leadership, will also be present.
Clerics in the predominately Christian Orthodox country are closing following developments, given that the government wants to change their long-standing payroll regime.
An influential association representing Orthodox clerics has promised to organize mobilizations against the plan, as well as to seek recourse to the courts.
