Tradition of changing of headscarves on St. George’s Feast Day at iconic central Greece Monastery

Perfect weather conditions this year greatly assisted in the holding of the tradition of the “headscarves” at the disused monastery of St. George Mandilas, near the central Greece village of Kastraki, in the Kalabaka district.

The Monastery is built into the sheer rock face.

Monday was the Feast Day of the Great Martyr St. George, a day after Holy and Great Easter. Every year on St. George’s Feast Day, men from the village change the headscarves at the Monastery, i.e. “Mandili” in Greek means headscarf.

A video of the tradition is posted today on the Orthodoxia news agency’s webpages.
