Today our Church venerates the martyrs Hesperus and Zoe, as well as their children Kyriakos and Theodoulos. The family lived as slaves in the household of a Roman during the reign of Hadrian in the 2nd century A.D. Rather than renounce their faith, they chose a martyr’s death in a furnace.
Today, the Orthodox Church also commemorates the retrieval of the Holy Relics of St. Athanasius of Alexandria, also known as Athanasius the Great and Athanasius the Confessor
