A rain shower in the northeast prefecture of Evros on Monday was considered a God send, as fire-fighters continued to battle a wildfire at the Dadia natural park for a fifth straight day.
A handful of major wildfire fronts were also active in the east Mediterranean country, including in the southwest Greece prefecture of Ilia.
The Monastery of Dadia was evacuated as a precaution.
The resident Metropolitan of Didimoticho, Orestiada and Soufli, His Eminence Damaskinos, accompanied government officials and fire brigade officers on a tour of the fire-stricken areas, where he referred to a massive ecological disaster.
