Summary:

At great risk to his life, Arsenios saves a fellow soldier who was wounded in battle. Everyone is amazed and tries to understand how he was not hit by gunfire in his attempt to carry the wounded soldier. When Arsenios is discharged from the army and returns home, his mother’s joy will not last long. The next day Arsenios leaves for Mount Athos. When he arrives at the “Orchard of the Virgin Mary”, he takes refuge with Father Kyrillos, a great spiritual man, who gives him his first advice on monasticism. Shortly after, he receives a letter from his father, who asks him to return and help him in the fields and also prepare the dowry for his little sister, Christina. Arsenios is in a dilemma and seeks guidance from Father Kyrillos, who tells him that it is better to go to his parents’ house, take care of his obligations, and then return for good. “Otherwise, temptation will be constantly planting thoughts, it will create qualms in your mind, and this will never end. It will not let you concentrate on your monastic duties. Go back, help your family, but do it with love…”, Father Kyrillos, tells him.
