New Parliament in Greece convenes, most deputies sworn-in with religious oath
Newly elected Parliament deputies from the July 7 general election in Greece were sworn-in on Wednesday morning.
Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, officiated at the first ceremony, along with members of the Holy Synod, where most deputies provided a religious oath.
The primate of the Church of Greece wished Parliament MPs fortitude in their legislative efforts.
A trio of deputies elected in the northeast border region of Thrace, where an autochthonous Muslim minority resides, provided an oath based on the quran, while a minority of deputies provided a non-religious oath.

In a related development, a closely watched meeting between the Archbishop with new Education and Religious Affairs Minister Niki Kerameos is set for Wednesday afternoon.
According to information gathered by the Orthodoxia news agency, the issue of religious classes in public schools and the payroll regime for clerics in the country will be discussed.
