ROAMING Project Final Conference in Tirana: Celebrating Achievements and Looking Ahead
Last week, the ROAMING Project held its final conference at LOGOS University College in Tirana, Albania, bringing together educators, administrators, and Erasmus+ partners to reflect on the project’s accomplishments and discuss the future of international mobility in the Western Balkans.
The conference began with opening remarks from Prof. Dr. Ilia Ninka, Rector of LOGOS University College, followed by a detailed overview of the ROAMING Project by Prof. Konstantinos Giakoumis, the Project Coordinator. These introductions set the tone for a day filled with insightful discussions on the project’s impact and future goals.
One of the highlights was a series of discussions led by the leaders of ROAMING’s five work packages. These sessions explored key areas such as project management, the reconfiguration of International Relations Offices (IROs), and strategies for quality assurance and dissemination. The panel, moderated by Prof. Artur Ribaj, offered valuable insights into the successes and challenges faced by the institutions involved in the project, particularly in fostering stronger IROs and supporting international student mobility.
Institutional representatives from LOGOS University College, POLIS University, ESN-Albania, International Business College Mitrovica, RIT Kosovo, and Mediterranean University in Podgorica presented progress reports, highlighting how the ROAMING Project has impacted their institutions. These reports focused on the tangible outcomes, including increased mobility opportunities for students and enhanced international partnerships.
The afternoon sessions included a quality assessment presented by Dr. Christina Kontogoulidou, the external auditor for the ROAMING Project, who reviewed the project’s achievements and provided recommendations for future sustainability. Prof. Konstantinos Giakoumis led a final panel discussion on the project’s forward-looking vision, with participants expressing a strong commitment to continuing the work beyond the official conclusion of the project.
Throughout the day, parallel events such as poster presentations on the effects of internationalization and a specialized training session for Erasmus+ volunteers were held. The ESN-Albania School training, conducted in collaboration with ESN-Ancona, was designed to empower student leaders and enhance the network’s impact across Europe.
The second day of the conference offered participants a unique opportunity to experience Albania’s rich history and cultural heritage. A guided tour took them to Saint John Vladimir’s Monastery, the Durrës Castle & Amphitheatre, and Saint Blaise’s Monastery, reinforcing the broader goals of the ROAMING Project to strengthen intercultural connections and foster deeper understanding among international students.
Though the conference marked the official end of the ROAMING Project, the commitment to advancing student mobility and strengthening international cooperation remains. We look forward to the continued success and impact of this important initiative!
