Visit of Chief Orthodox Military Chaplains to the Metropolitan of Belgium
On Tuesday, 28 January 2025, His Eminence Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg, received at the headquarters of the Holy Metropolis a group of Orthodox military priests and their collaborators led by Archbishop Georgios of Wrocław and Szczecin, Bishop of the Polish Orthodox Service of Military Priests.
These clergymen who serve in the respective military services of their countries, along with their colleagues from other Christian churches and denominations as well as other religions, are currently in Brussels as part of their participation in the International Conference of Chief Military Chaplains and Religious Ministers hosted in Brussels by the corresponding service of the Belgian army.
They were received by His Eminence who gave them a tour, referring to the history of the Holy Metropolis of Belgium as well as the presence of Orthodoxy in the Benelux countries since the 18th century with the settlement of Greek merchants in Amsterdam. After they venerated at the Metropolitan Chapel, a breakfast was served where they had the opportunity to get to know each other and further discuss issues of common interest and contemporary ecclesiastical issues.
