Metropolitan of Nea Krini & Kalamaria visits Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi – (PHOTOS)
The Monasteries on the semi-autonomous Orthodox monastic community of Mt. Athos on Wednesday celebrated the Great Feast Day of the Dormition of the Theotokos, the Ever Virgin Mary. The Great Feast Day is also highly significant for the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, as tradition holds that the Catholicos – the main part of the Monastery’s Cathedral – was dedicated, up to the 10th century, to the Dormition of the Theotokos.
Based on the Julian calendar, the Great Feast Day was celebrated with venerable Athonite order and with millennia-old Byzantine splendor at the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi.
The Metropolitan of Nea Krini and Kalamaria, His Eminence Ioustinos, arrived on Wednesday afternoon at the Monastery, accompanied by the First Secretary of the Holy Metropolis of Nea Ionia, Archimandrite Epifanios Arvanitis, with both Church hierarchs greeted by the Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi.
On Thursday morning, His Eminence Ioustinos presided at the Divine Liturgy at Vatopedi’s Holy Cathedral.
