Serbian, Russian hierarchs concelebrate feast of Dormition at Pskov Caves Monastery

The Holy Dormition Pskov Caves Monastery joyously celebrated its patronal feast on Wednesday, and the joy of the feast of the Mother of God was amplified by the concelebration of hierarchs from the fraternal Russian and Serbian Churches—common children of the Mother of God in the Body of her Son.

The Divine Liturgy for the feast was celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk and His Eminence Metropolitan Tikhon of Pskov and Porkhov, the abbot of the monastery, of the Russian Church, and His Grace Bishop Irinej of Bačka, His Grace Bishop Anthony of Moravički, and His Grace Bishop Hesychios of Mohács of the Serbian Orthodox Church, reports the site of the Pskov Caves Monastery.

The Liturgy was celebrated on the square in front of the Archangel Michael Cathedral, reports Patriarchia.ru.

Numerous pilgrims from all across Russia and abroad joined the clergy and brotherhood in praying at the feast.

In his words to the faithful gathered, Met. Hilarion emphasized that it is no coincidence that all the ancient cathedrals of Rus’ were named in honor of the Dormition of the Mother of God, but it is connected with the special pious reverence of the people of Rus’, from the very Baptism of Rus’, for the Mother of God. He also made special emphasis on close bonds that have always existed between the Russian and Serbian Churches and people.

At the end of the Liturgy, a traditional cross procession was made around the monastery.

The Serbian delegation arrived in Russia for a pilgrimage around the holy sites of the Russian north, including the Holy Transfiguration Valaam Monastery and St. Petersburg.
