Polish Orthodox Church adds 16 newly canonized Romanian Saints to its liturgical calendar

The sixteen newly canonized saints proclaimed in the context of the Centennial of the Romanian Patriarchate will also be included in the liturgical calendar of the Orthodox Church of Poland.

The decision was approved by the Holy Synod of the Polish Church during its most recent working session, held on March 18 in Warsaw.

During the same meeting, the Polish Church also canonized several martyrs who were killed in the Katyn Massacre.

The Polish Orthodox Church is among the first Orthodox Churches to respond positively to the Romanian Patriarchate’s proposal to include the newly canonized Romanian saints in local church calendars.

In 2017, the Polish Church included in its calendar more than forty saints canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church since 1950.

The canonization of the new Romanian saints was officially proclaimed on February 4, the day marking 100 years since the Romanian Orthodox Church’s elevation to Patriarchate.
