Ceremony in Athens for this 2019-20 Church of Greece academic scholarship recipients

A ceremony presenting and honoring this year’s recipients of the Church of Greece academic scholarships was held on Tuesday at the Holy Synod’s Synodical Grand Chamber, in central Athens.

A total of 48 Greek students were awarded scholarships for post-graduate studies abroad, while 37 students from around the world were awarded scholarships for undergraduate and post-graduate studies in Greece.

In addressing the ceremony, Archbishop of Ieronymos referred to what he called the difficulties of our times, which have, unfortunately, also affected the Church’s charitable works.

He offered a blessing that God will provide for all, while specifically addressing the scholarship recipients, he noted that “…Our Church will not forget you … We love our country, but above all there is Orthodoxy, which empowers us to deal with all the problems that we face.” The total sum allocated by the Church of Greece for scholarships in the 2019-2020 academic year will reach 306,000 euros.
