Prayer of Patriarch John X for Beirut
On this day, our hearts are shaken by the tragedy of the Beirut port explosion—a disaster that struck our Lebanese reality and snatched away beloved souls. Today, we pray the Father of Lights that he receive them into His heavenly radiance, anoint them with the balm of His mercy, and soothe the hearts of their families with His divine consolation.
Our prayer today is for our beloved ones who perished in the blast. We pray that God may wipe away every tear from their families’ eyes—and from ours. We join heart to heart and remember our brothers. We remember the Beirut Fire Brigade and the staff of Saint George Hospital. We remember the countless beloved ones struck by the horror of this catastrophe. And we affirm, despite everything, that the will to live will prevail—it will wipe away the tears of pain and sketch the smile of tomorrow and the resurrection of Lebanon.
O Virgin, purify our hearts.
O Virgin, scatter our anguish.
O Virgin, have mercy on our dead.
O Virgin, heal our Lebanon and protect our Beirut.
O Virgin, soothe the wounds of the grieving and have mercy on the displaced and homeless.
Entrust the scalpel of Your mercy to the hands of the physicians,
and uphold the medical teams with Your sustaining grace.
O Virgin, uproot our passions. Calm the terror of the fearful. Settle them in the peace of Jesus Christ, who is blessed and glorified forever. Amen
